Tytherington School could inspire future Olympians, with their planned new sports pavilion.
Cheshire East Council has approved plans for a new sports pavilion to be constructed the north of the Tytherington School, including cycle parking and landscaping.
The new building will comprise of a common room, quiet study room, café as well as changing and shower rooms at ground floor with four classrooms at the first floor.
The ground floor common room, café, toilets and changing rooms are planned for use by the community outside of school hours.
The changing rooms, toilets and viewing gallery will be made available within the cost of hire of the artificial grass pitch, with the common room and café made available for hire at a modest additional cost.
Cycle parking for bikes to encourage further activity will be at the west of the building. Initially, car parking was also sought but this was removed, unlike the eight proposed cycle spaces. There will also be a new ball catch net.
Macclesfield Town Council did ponder if the proposals were more akin to a sixth form block than sports facilities for the 11-18 school, however, this did not stop the planning application from going through.
Three objections from members of the public were recorded, citing issues such as loss of privacy and direct sunlight.
A planning document recognised that Tytherington School's sports provisions has fallen down the wayside, with cricket nets not being used in 12 years, and other sporting facilities being preferred to existing ones.
And Case Officer Melissa Martin recommended that these new modern facilities be built, and indeed was approved with 12 planning conditions.
Building hours has been earmarked for 07:00 to 20:00 hours Monday to Sunday.
No completion date has been specified, but they must get it complete within three years, as after then they would be required to submit a fresh planning application.
Tytherington School was contacted for comment by Macclesfield Nub News.
Headteacher Manny Botwe said: "This new facility will be a great addition to the school and provide improved sporting facilities for the local community."
"It will also provide additional classrooms and study space for our growing sixth form."
The school currently has 1425 pupils.
