Macclesfield: Part of The Silk Road to shut temporarily

By Alex Greensmith

17th Dec 2021 | Local News

The Silk Road will be shut on one of the first days of the new year.

It is to allow construction workers to prepare for an access point to the new retail park on Barracks Mill, off've Macclesfield's Back Lane.

This is according to Macclesfield's Mayor David Edwardes.

"The Silk Road will be closed between 20.00 and 06.00 on the night of 04/05 January between the Maccies roundabout and the Hibel Road roundabout," he said.

"We are not getting off lightly. This is to allow Stainforth (the new shopping park developers) to "get set up" for the major disruption of making the new entry/exit from the estate."

If you were planning on heading back home from Christmas festivities or travelling to work on the night of Tuesday January 4 2022 or the early hours of the following date, you may wish to reconsider your plans.

The 78,000 sq. ft Barracks Mill development is already confirmed to have an Aldi, Costa, and M&S Simply Food.

Macclesfield Nub News will reveal more of the shops moving in throughout 2022.

The site could be ready by December 2022 / early 2023.
