Meet the Macclesfield taproom and pizza parlour, who make their own beer just yards away from the bar.

Happy Valley Tap and Pizza Pub, located on 73 Oxford Road, is the only pub in Macclesfield to brew their own beer on-site.

They also serve pizzas with dough made fresh every morning, and have even dabbled in brewing their own gin.

With Italian being the UK's favourite cuisine, and pub culture being a staple of our nation, the Oxford Road establishment has married pizza and beer together into a successful business.

Macclesfield Nub News went for a drink and a slice, and chatted to Manager Grant Chidzey, who has worked at the Macclesfield venue for a year.

"I was attracted to apply to work for Happy Valley Tap and Pizza Pub as I liked how they survived during lockdown, he said.

"They managed to survive on deliveries, particularly of their pizza trade, which we still do now.

"All our doughs are made on the same day on site, with the exception of our gluten free base, which we have outsourced to ensure quality if of the highest standard.

Happy Valley Tap and Pizza Pub also have the best food hygiene rating possible.

"The best seller is The Works, which contains cheese, tomato, pepperoni, ham, ground beer, peppers and onion for. Also popular is the Mighty Meaty, which is our newest one.

"We have seven veggie pizzas, but we do have the option of vegan cheese for all of these. I am a vegan personally, and think they are delicious.

"We also have a wide selection of sides and desserts.

"Kids can get a nine-inch instead of a 12-inch Margherita for £4.50. Children can also eat for half-price on Sundays. We have two cocktails for £10 on Saturday.

"We also have a lunchtime deal 12-4pm every Friday-Sunday, any 12' pizza and soft drink for £9.50

"We try to do lots of little deals. On Monday there is 2-4-1 eating in. Tuesday has 20 per cent off eating in as well. We have these offers as we want people to come in and see how the venue has transformed.

"Eat and drink trade is slowly increasing, in-part thanks to our amazing brewer Matt who you may also know for opening The Little Street Cellar in Congleton."

Beers you can enjoy in the pub include Hoppiness, a 4.3% blonde ale brewed at a shed visible from the pump.

A top-selling beer is FASA, a pale ale which is funding the building of schools in South Africa, in a collaboration with Macclesfield's Fallibroome Academy.

With their four of their beers on draught being brewed on site, Grant also wanted to champion the bars localness elsewhere, and has provided a platform for musicians to perform to the community.

Macclesfield music artists can play here once a month and perform to the community.

"I want to support musicians here, it helps with the nice family-friendly space we have got going," he added.

"I'm a musician myself so I make a fact of paying the artists for their time and talents as well.

"I moved up here from London, working for venues with a love of craft beer and cocktails.

"I'm from Warrington originally. I returned to Cheshire to move back in with my parents during lockdown to re-evaluate what I was doing.

"Macclesfield has a fantastic beer scene, from Market Place with R&G's Beer Vault to Fiveclouds, and The Castle [on Church Street]. And we are pleased to be a part of it.

"I love Macclesfield for being a different pace of life as well.

"It is a nice close-knit community, but the struggle we have here is we are off-the-cuff where we are located. So we've decided to just put in some new signage."

"My favourite thing about working here is the people. I have fell in love with Macclesfield. Everyone who comes in here is lovely. They have made me feel at home."

They are currently seeking to hire another pizza chef, and you can contact them via Facebook.
