Macclesfield: A man has been hassling homeowners to buy cleaning products in Sutton.

Cops in Macclesfield are warning residents about an hostile cleaning product salesperson in Sutton.

A man has been knocking on doors the semi-rural village of one mile south of Macc.

The rogue seller is trying to flog cleaning products, of which Cheshire Police expect wrongdoing.

Macclesfield East & Sutton Police officer PCSO Jim Newns had this to say:

"Reports of a young male selling dusters [and other cleaning products] out of a holdall in Sutton, being rather aggressive in his sales."

"If you have any such issues from peddlers contact the police on 101 so we can check them out."

While the individual may just be trying to make a living in financially uncertain times, it is the wording used by Newns that implies possible lawbreaking.

And door-to-door selling is legal, despite the pandemic, but the use of the term 'peddlers' suggests criminal activity.

This means the goods are thought to be stolen or illegally sourced, and being sold at extortionate prices, which often leaves vulnerable or old people scammed into paying high out of fear.

One local resident jokingly said: "Should get this crime done and dusted in no time".

Macclesfield: do you have any images of the assailant?

You can contact Police on 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
