Ever dreamed of having afternoon tea in the morning? Now you can at Macclesfield pub... (for one day only!)

The Hanging Gate is an easy-going, breezy pub in Higher Sutton.

Boasting unrivalled views of Macclesfield, Manchester and beyond, the remote location of the pub is a huge part of its appeal.

And this August, the pub will be doing its bit for charity, with a delicious fundraiser.

A £2 donation is included within every booking, but of course, more funds can be raised on the day.

The pub will serve tea and sandwiches in aid of the research charity Breast Cancer Now.

Pub co-owner Hillary Spokes spoke with Macclesfield Nub News.

"This August, we're raising funds for Breast Cancer Now - a cause close to our hearts," she said.

"Having family, friends, customers and colleagues affected by this dreadful disease, we are delighted to be doing our bit.

According to the World Health Organisation, in 2022, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer across the globe. "On Thursday August 8, we'll be turning the pub pink as we serve scrumptious afternoon tea and raise money to help power life-saving breast cancer research and vital support.

"Enjoy dainty sandwiches, mouth-watering savouries, home-baked cakes and scones - all you need to decide is jam or cream first? Upgrade to Prosecco for fizz-fuelled fun.

"The event will be a great opportunity to get together with friends or spoil a loved one, whilst supporting a great cause.

"With a grand prize raffle and much more, places are limited so email us at [email protected] to book."

The pub is open four days a week. And normally is on a Thursday, but they do not normally serve afternoon tea!

There will be four sittings to enjoy the delicacies.

Sittings are at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. However, the 3pm sitting has already sold out.

And of course, the pub is open as normal on Thursday evening, so you can stick around until 9pm if you like.

"Places are limited so email us at [email protected] for more details and to book," added Hillary.

Customers are in for a treat as the 17th century pub, located high on the hill side just outside Macclesfield Forest, hosts its first ever afternoon tea.

"Thank you for your support."

Breast Cancer Now is grateful for the pub's support.

Georgie Gibbons, Afternoon Tea Manager at Breast Cancer Now, said: "I want to say a huge heartfelt thank you to The Hanging Gate pub for hosting an afternoon tea for Breast Cancer Now. We hope you have a wonderful time raising money for such an important cause."

"Breast cancer is the most common cancer, with around 55,000 women and 400 men diagnosed each year in the UK. But thanks to the incredible support of fundraisers like The Hanging Gate pub, every Afternoon Tea held will help Breast Cancer Now drive forward our life-saving research and provide vital support services.

"It's not too late to get involved with afternoon tea. Whether it's scones in the sunshine, a picnic in the park, or tea and biscuits at the kitchen table – you're free to do it your way. Simply sign up for your fundraising kit at this link."

The Hanging Gate can be contacted on Facebook and their website.

The afternoon tea get-together is the latest innovative event to get punters to the pub, following a recent get-together where The Hanging Gate recently invited a local alpaca farm up for a pint.

The pub dates back to the 1600s, but was shut between 2017 and 2021 until the current publicans rejuvenated it. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

You can also enjoy local beers at the pub, from Wincle to Storm. Forest Distillery is also supported.

The Hanging Gate is also one of just two pubs known to Macclesfield Nub News in the local area that serves Jeremy Clarkson's Hawkstone Beer.

This month, they also began stocking Hawkstone Cider, for local Clarkson's Farm fans to enjoy. Please click the red link above to find out more.

The Hanging Gate is keen to support local charities too, and is the halfway point on the Sutton 8 pub walk in aid of East Cheshire Hospice, and has held quiz nights for Macclesfield's One Project.

Just a few days to go!

Furthermore, the pub teamed up with Home Baking Cheshire in 2021 to hold a coffee morning in aid of Dementia UK raising a £400.50.

There is parking on-site at SK11 0NG.
