A pub in Macclesfield has new management and an ambitious 2023 planned.

The White Lion, located at the bottom of the Mill Street hill, aims to be the top town centre pub in Macclesfield.

The new business partners behind the pub are 22-year-old entrepreneur Kyle Frost and Jack Bellis (24).

"We're delighted to be here," said Jack.

Pub grub will be introduced in the near future, from fried chicken to hearty pies. As well as serving dishes themselves, The White Lion will also serve as a satellite kitchen for one of the publican's other venues - NO. 8 DUKE'S. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"Some of the big changes are we are open from 12pm every day now, instead of 4pm like it was before us.

"We're also going to introduce a food menu in the coming months, which will be introduced at the same time as our massive refurb across the whole pub.

"We want to be more family-oriented, our menu will have pub favourites. We've just had a brand new coffee machine installed and we're changing the pub's layout.

"The darts have gone but a new pool table is coming in this week, and we'd love a new pool team in. Live sports are here to stay as well.

They are also debating over introducing breakfast, which could see an even earlier opening time of 10am. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"Kyle owns NO. 8 DUKE'S and DUKEBOX in Duke's Court just round the corner, which have a late night licence after The White Lion shuts. And as we've extended the opening hours for an earlier start at The White Lion, we want to create a journey where they can start their night here, have a bit of food and then go over to Duke's Court. So we'll be doing offers which help promote all three venues together. The trio of venues together will serve audiences from all walks of life.

"One of the great things about us taking this on from an employer's point of view is that, because Kyle already owns two other bars, we have been able to offer our staff shifts in January. Normally with people saving their money and Dry January there would be less hours for staff, but because we have taken on another venue, our staff are working the same hours this month that they did last month.

"Given the rising bills and the fact lots of our staff pay for childcare, they're delighted to be able to work here as well as the other two venues. We weren't able to offer daytime hours before until we took on this venue.

"Kyle himself employs 20 plus staff across his businesses, with nine working at The White Lion. And we'll be looking for new bar and kitchen staff as we begin to refurbish and reopen other parts of the pub. They'll also be able to offer apprenticeships."

The outdoor area will get an overhaul, with a Macclesfield gardener JA Garden Maintenance already making improvements. They also aim to introduce events every day, from bingo to raffles to themed nights.

They also want to introduce a 'family-day', decking their beer garden out with a bouncy castle amongst other fun activities.

The White Lion will also host a fundraising event for a Macclesfield charity in the coming months, and have an official relaunch after the refurbishment.

"I've been working in hospitality in the Macclesfield area for the last eight years," added Jack.

"I worked at Hickory's in Poynton and opened The Elbow Room on Wood Street.

"I started working with Kyle managing his bars in Duke's Court two years ago. We've gone 50-50 one the pub.

"He'll deal with the marketing side and I'll deal with the day-to-day running of the pub.

"Me and Kyle are quite young, so we want to put all our energy in to make sure this is a friendly local where there's always something going on all the time.

"The pub hasn't had a lot of love in recent years, but we're here to bring it back up again. It is a fantastic venue with a central location, and we can't wait to welcome you."

Kyle who grew up on the Weston estate and also owns a beauty business in Duke's Court added: "We're delighted to incorporate The White Lion into The Duke's Court Bar Group. We're obviously just a 30 second walk away from it, and we want to make The White Lion the best pub in Macclesfield.

"Our refurbishment will be done in early spring. We're also hoping to turn an unused room into a function room."

The White Lion is located on 105 Mill Street, Macclesfield SK11 6NN.
