Macclesfield station redevelopment 'nearing completion' as main building reopens
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 14th Oct 2026
Macclesfield railway station's refurbishment is nearing completion.
The main station building has finally reopened, having been shut since the final phase of a £2 million redevelopment began last November.
Work was initially due to be completed by the spring, with Avanti West Coast having not given a reason for the project's delay.
Nevertheless, it now appears to be nearing its end, although the rail operator hasn't provided an exact completion date.
An Avanti spokesperson said: "The main station building at Macclesfield has now reopened, and we'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as we worked with contractors to deliver this element of the redevelopment.
"The remaining parts of the project are nearing completion and we're looking forward to welcoming customers and the community into the new station environment soon, which will provide an improved gateway to the town.
"We know many people are keen to understand when the remainder of the work will be finished.
"While we don't have a confirmed completion date, work is progressing and we'll share an update as soon as we can.
"In the meantime, our station team are on hand to support anyone travelling to or from Macclesfield."
