Macclesfield: The Upton Priory lunchspot with options from £2
Meet one of the few lunch spots in Upton Priory which may also be the best value for money.
Belong Macclesfield, a care village on Kennedy Avenue, run a bustling Bistro for the whole community to use.
As well as residents and the families, the place to eat is popular with local residents or those who work nearby.
Prices are low but the quality is high. Highlights include sandwiches from just £2.80, baked potatoes from £2.90 and salads from £2.00.
Macclesfield Nub News met with Chloe Henshaw - who this year is celebrating her 15 anniversary working for the Bistro.
"We keep prices down by cooking from scratch," she said.
"I've been here as long as Belong Macclesfield has. I was hired here 15 years ago when the builders were still fitting the kitchen in.
"I started as an Assistant Cook and did all of my training here to become a Bistro Catering Manager eight years ago.
"Despite being here all this time, some people don't realise that as well as being for the care home, the Bistro's dishes can be enjoyed by the public too.
"But when people do come in and see what we are all about, they love it and do come back."
As well as sandwich favourites, there is also a rotating menu of hot food every day. The most popular being fish and chips on a Friday (with fish from Cheshire Fish in Macclesfield).
There's also daily specials which are often seasonal pies or casseroles.
They also do a Sunday roast, and open their doors to the public 364 days a year (barring Christmas).
"One of my favourite parts about the job is the people that come in," added Chloe.
"The residents in particular make my day. You get to know residents and their families as well.
"We host events in the Bistro also, so it is not just my food that brings people together.
"And we have a great number of people from the community who come in for breakfast or lunch as well, so it is always nice to meet new faces.
"Those who also have an appointment at the nearby Andrews Pharmacy like to come here for a coffee or quick bite.
"The pharmacy often tells people to wait in their cars if they are early, but why not come here for a quick winter warm?"
The site has strong wi-fi and cheap coffee for those who do not work in an office, but need somewhere to work.
The milk is local - from Jacksons - and the fruit and vegetables are from Knutsford.
They can cater for those with allergies and specific dietary requirements.
Chloe leads a team of ten, and wants more people to join her team on a casual basis [link here].
"Belong is a great company to work for because it feels like a family," she concluded.
"Belong invest in people, and what we want to achieve in our roles.
"There's so many opportunities for development and career progression."
