Macclesfield Nub News is a work from home operation, so it is easy to lose touch with what is going on inside the world of offices.

The pandemic shifted things, but perhaps not as much as one would think, despite England's stock of office space being in freefall, the Tytherington Business Park is still going strong.

The office park just off The Silk Road is a mixed-use business and residential community, snuggled inside 43 acres of mature parkland.

Whilst there is availability for some office letting - like in many office parks across the country - the economic future looks bright for Tytherington Business Park.

A new science firm is potentially moving in, which could create 100 jobs, meanwhile a new independent lunchspot opened next to an already-successful indie salon.

And the offices themselves arguably look as new as the day they opened. Working from home isn't for everyone, especially when there is a prestigious office park on your doorstep.

So Macclesfield Nub News went down to the Tytherington Business Park to find out why some of the companies' staff like working there.

Joe Etherington works in Sycamore House, for Moneybox Wills and Trusts. He deals with wills, trusts, and lasting powers of attorney.

"Clients that come in are very complimentary of the Business Park, it has got a nice, fresh, friendly feel to it," said Joe.

"I like that we have a lift, which makes it accessible, we are very easy to find with lots of parking."

Joe, who recently raised £5800 for charity, has worked in the Park for three years.

"Unlike most people in the Business Park, I don't have as much of a personal connection to the local area. However, I quite like that here you have an out of town feel, but you are five minutes from the town centre."

Tom Barrass works as the Managing Director of Marquis Financial Services which trades as the Mortgage Advice Bureau.

"I have worked in the Tytherington Business Park since we took over the officers 18 months ago," he said.

"I was brought up in this area, I used to live a few hundred yards away from the Business Park, prior to that I was in Bollington.

"I like working in the Tytherington Business Park for a sense of 'feel' for me.

"There's always a little bit of prestige around Tytherington, so for me I felt like it was almost an accomplishment for the business to get into the Tytherington Business Park.

"It has a lot of local amenities which are really great, I love Hannah's Place which has recently come in. The pub is great, I quite often stay over there [at Premier Inn], particularly if I am on a late work night."

Tom, who is a former Bollington Cricket Club player and still sponsors the team through his mortgage firm, explained what else loves about working in Tytherington.

"I believe the Macclesfield area has one of the most beautiful countrysides in the country," he added.

"I don't utilise them as much as I wish I did, but the walks around here are fantastic as well.

"We don't do as much networking with the other businesses as much as we like. We held a Chamber of Commerce here, but we can always improve in that."

Like Joe, Andrew Teeman of Finative Financial Planning, is from the East Midlands. But unlike Joe, Andrew moved here and lives just around the corner from the Orbit Developments-owned office park.

"I run a wealth business: a financial planning firm and equity release business. I am qualified to do both from an advice perspective," said Andrew.

"I've been working at the Tytherington Business Park for a year-and-a-half. My family moved to Tytherington in June 2021, my kids go to Marlborough Primary School.

"For me, it is really helpful to be within walking distance of home, the office, school, and the Tytherington Club which I use a lot.

"I like working in the Tytherington Business Park as it feels like a proper place of work.

"I worked by myself and for myself for 15 years, so I didn't really have that.

"It is actually really nice to leave the house, go somewhere and see colleagues and associates.

"The Park itself is well looked after, newish, plus the pub and coffee shop are handy nearby.

"There's a kids playground, we've got benches out the back, and it is part-residential as well as it having a nice leafy feel. It is a joy to come here every day.

"We don't do as much networking with the other businesses as we'd like, it is one of those things you always say you would do when you are less busy, but we never are! I think there could be some more co-ordinated events, even like a pension workshop at the coffee shop or some sort of networking event, something like that.

"There is a big volume of business here, but we are very isolated from one another. I think we could introduce localised discounts."

Andrew had this to say on why he is the best at what he does:

"Personally, I have been nominated for several British Mortgage Awards, but I think we care a lot about what the customer receives and the journey they are on. Age-wise, I turned 40 last year so I am young enough to realise the importance of new clients and getting new business, but old enough to realise that retaining clients, making sure they feel valued is absolutely paramount.

"So it is a good space to be in. Everybody is more confused by the internet than less, there is lots of financial scams now, lots of change of regulations and policy, the financial services market has been turned upside down in the last 15 years and beyond. And that doesn't look like it is going to change, so the customer comes first, we have got extremely high retention rates, most of our business has been on referrals if not all of it so we are going something right. And we are continuing to grow, we have 30-odd staff across the group, we have advisors nationwide and 50-60 introducer firms that send business to us. So I think we are doing something right and we are happy with that.

"Clients can come visit us at the office. I think people like to see what they are coming into and what sort of business they are dealing with. They get a much warmer feel and get to see who is behind the business.

The Tytherington Business Park, also known as Tytherington Business Village, comprises 19 buildings occupied by organisations that deal with a wide variety of disciplines, from water jets to childcare.
