Macclesfield FC's Robbie Savage has appeared in a video with Wrexham AFC owner Ryan Reynolds.

A promotional clip for Netflix, which stars Wrexham co-owner and celebrity actor Ryan Reynolds, feature a cameo from Macc's Director of Football towards the end.

The teaser trailer, which promotes new movie RED NOTICE, also serves as a preview to the upcoming Wrexham A.F.C documentary by including football man Robbie Savage alongside Reynolds, who is also involved with a high-profile non-league football club.

The comedic trailer uses the people of Wrexham to promote the new superhero movie starring the Canadian actor, and includes Robbie as one of the testimonials.

In the one-minute-clip Reynolds said: "'I also wanna have my friend Robbie give a special shoutout to my friends The Rock and Gal".

Macclesfield's Director of Football replied with a slandering of actors Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Gal Gadot, by calling them: "two farts in a jam pot."

The namestrap for Robbie also sends up Savage, as it describes his relevance to the town as his 'Mum lives in Wrexham'.

Savage's cameo, which is in Welsh, has multiple layers of coincidences and tongue-and-cheek humour.

Of course, the 47-year-old is from Wrexham himself, but the timing of the release of the clip follows the television premiere of the Macclesfield FC documentary on BBC One at the weekend.

It is unknown at this time if Robbie Savage will also be appearing in the Wrexham football club documentary, of a currently unknown release date.

Netflix have been contacted for comment.

While four steps separate the club's in the non-league football pyramid, there are a lot of similarities between Wrexham and Macclesfield AFC.

Both were taken over by their new owners in 2020, both of their original clubs were founded in the 1800s, and both are ex-Football League clubs.

Aside Wrexham's Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Macclesfield FC's Robbie Savage and Rob Smethurst are the two most high profile backroom staff in non-league football.

As well as his current spell with Macclesfield FC, Robbie Savage has strong ties to our area.

He started his senior career in Cheshire East with Crewe Alexandra, and he currently lives in Prestbury.

His son Charlie Savage, who currently plays for Manchester United, grew up in Prestbury.

The trailer can be viewed above.

Crime film Red Notice is out in cinemas and on Netflix now.
