Macclesfield's monthly comedy evening is back, but this time at a new venue.

Fresh from hosting the charity music festival Party in the Pews, Anglican former place of worship Christ Church will be hosting some of the UK's greatest comics this summer.

Stand Up Macclesfield Comedy Club promises another huge night of stand-up comedy in Macclesfield on Saturday September 3, which is usually held at Macclesfield Rugby Club.

Promoters Nodding Dog Comedy have always impressed with the star names they have attracted to their club nights at both Macclesfield Rugby Club and RedWillow.

But for the first weekend in September, for one night only, they take the show to Christ Church on Bridge Street and the lineup is star-studded.

Performing at the Grade II*-listed redundant church will be an array of TV comedians with a bill that would rival that of any comedy club in the country.

With Macclesfield favourite Jonathan Mayor (Tour support for Sarah Millican) in the MC role, headlining will be Barbara Nice.

A genuine legend of the comedy circuit Barbara has not just won countless awards and played some of the countries biggest venues, but has also appeared on television shows such as Max and Paddy's Road To Nowhere, Britain's Got Talent and Coronation Street.

But she is best known for her recurring role as Holy Mary in Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights.

Support on the night comes from Tez Ilyas and Phil Ellis.

Tez Ilyas, fresh from a sell-out UK tour that took in venues such as the Lowry, will be familiar to many from appearances on shows such as Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week and The Last Leg.

The Blackburn-born comic has had his own Channel 4 programme The Tez O'Clock Show since 2019.

Phil Ellis has been seen on Russell Howard's Good News and star of his own BBC Radio 4 sitcom. He's also a Comedy Central regular, featuring in Roast Battle and Drunk History: UK.

The award-winning comic has performed in Macclesfield before, but never in Christ Church.

Event organiser and Nodding Dog Comedy owner Kev Rook is delighted to be taking such a great show to this stunning space.

"The building is really quite something, hundreds of years old and perfect for live comedy," he said.

"Add in a few additions and some special lighting and it is going to look incredible.

"Coupled with one of the best line-ups we have ever compiled, I think it's going to end up being an event to remember, we are really excited for it!"

A fully licenced bar and food trucks will be on site from 6pm to allow you to enjoy the unique grounds of the venue before the show starts at 8pm.

Tickets cost £15 are on sale now from this link, and £2.50 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Christ Church restoration fund.
