World Book Day delivered once again.

Children across the country have been heading into school dressed as their favourite literary characters today (Thursday, March 6).

Here in Macclesfield we saw everything from Ian Fleming's iconic spy, James Bond, to more contemporary choices, such as Nikki Maxwell from the Dork Diaries series by Rachel Renée Russell.

It wasn't just schools taking part this year either.

Shops, Dentists, nurseries and even Jodrell Bank have been getting into the World Book Day spirit, putting on special events and sharing their favourite stories on social media.

World Book Day was created by UNESCO in 1995 with the aim of promoting a love for books and reading.

In the UK, World Book Day is a registered charity and is celebrated on the first Thursday in March.

The charity's aim is to ensure every child and young person has the opportunity to read.

This mission is more important than ever, with the charity reporting that half a million children in England don't own a single book.
