Macclesfield's newest gym located on the Silk Retail Park, off Hulley Road, will embark on a new mission for charities British Heart Foundation and Mental Health UK.

According to the British Heart Foundation and Mental Health UK, 1 in 2 of us will have a heart and circulatory disease in our lifetime.

So this June, over 2000 of PureGym colleagues - including Macclesfield's 11 staff - will be taking part in the Hearts and Minds Relay event to raise money for both of the national causes.

Macclesfield's team will be travelling to Northwich, then Stoke on-Trent and finally Hednesford. The staff have the option of biking or jogging there.

Last year's relay saw PureGym raised £327,409 nationally, and this is the first year Macclesfield will be taking part. (Image - PureGym)

Both charities are driving forward ground-breaking research to help those who are living with heart and circulatory or mental health problems.

The event incorporates fundraising, while promoting the importance of taking part in physical activity.

"We know how important exercise is for both mental and physical health,'' stated PureGym Macclesfield Manager Tom Coates.

"Since we opened a fortnight ago, it has been fantastic," added Tom.

"We want everybody to feel welcome in PureGym and feel that message has hit home with a lot of people who are stepping into our doors being new to a gym, which is amazing to see.

"We want to inspire and help fitness become accessible to everyone.

"The Hearts and Minds Relay is part of a national PureGym initiative where we have already raised £30,000.

Assistant Manager Danny Jackson is also encouraging gym-goers to challenge themselves for charity. You can even make a donation inside the gym.

"You can donate to the Macclesfield one by clicking here."

Donations to the Hearts and Minds Relay will be split 80% to the British Heart Foundation and 20% to Mental Health UK.

PureGym Macclesfield Silk Road opened on May 31 2022.
