Man airlifted to hospital and flats evacuated following van fire in Macclesfield

A man has been airlifted to hospital following a fire in Macclesfield.
Brook Street is currently closed as a huge emergency service presence deal with a blaze, believed to have started in a van.
A nearby building has been evacuated with a 25-year-old man taken to hospital via air ambulance.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 11.56am on Wednesday 26 May, officers in Macclesfield were made aware of reports of a vehicle fire in the Maydews Passage area of the town.
"Officers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service, and found that a van had caught fire.
"Officers assisted in the evacuation of residents from a nearby block of flats whilst fire colleagues worked on extinguishing the fire.
"A 25-year-old man has been taken to Wythenshawe Hospital via air ambulance.
"Officers remain on scene at this time."
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: Fire crews are currently in attendance at a fire involving a van and numerous flats on Maydews Passage in Macclesfield.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have entered the building to tackle the fire and evacuate the premises.
"At this time, we believe all persons have been accounted for.
"One casualty is now in the care of North West Ambulance Service.
"A cordon is in place and we ask the public to keep away from the area while we deal with the incident. Local residents should close windows and doors to keep smoke out."
