By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 27th May 2026
A community hero is set to receive Bollington's highest civic honour.
Ben Moorhouse will be awarded the Freedom of the Town at next week's full council meeting, on Tuesday, June 2.
This title reflects Ben's contributions to the town, notably helping to grit and clear roads during periods of heavy snowfall.
More recently, Ben risked his own life as he helped a blind woman from her burning home.
A statement released by the council reads: "This honour recognises Ben's outstanding service and dedication to the Bollington community over many years.
"Ben is widely known for his tireless volunteer work, always stepping forward to help residents in times of need.
"From assisting during severe winter weather with snow ploughing and clearing blocked drains, to supporting vulnerable members of the community, Ben has consistently shown exceptional commitment to helping others.
"Ben has also been recognised for his bravery and quick actions in helping to save the life of a local lady, demonstrating the care and selflessness that have made him such a valued member of the community.
"The council is proud to recognise Ben's continued contribution to Bollington and the difference he has made to so many residents."
