A protestor has camped on top of the borough council building which represents Macclesfield.

Earlier today, a man who climbed up on to the roof ledge at Cheshire East's Sandbach headquarters has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

Macclesfield Nub News' sister site Sandbach Nub News told (here) how Cheshire Police cordoned off the front of Cheshire East Council's headquarters in Sandbach yesterday after the man climbed up on to a ledge and pitched a tent.

He stayed on top of the local government building overnight, despite chilly temperatures.

Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service were all in attendance at the building, Westfields in Middlewich Road next to Sandbach Police Station.

The reception at the building was also closed and a board asked anyone needing access 'to phone a number' and firemen were seen going up in a cherry picker fire truck to speak to the man.

The man remained on the roof overnight but at lunchtime today (Thursday), over 24 hours after he went up, firefighters used special equipment to bring him down safely as revealed in exclusive footage here

A spokesperson from Cheshire Police said: "Shortly after 7am on Wednesday 25th October, police were made aware of a man on the roof of a building in Middlewich Road, Sandbach.

"Police and Fire attended the scene and a cordon was put in place as a precaution.

"At 12.12pm today (Thursday 26th October), the 59-year-old man was assisted down to the ground by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"He was subsequently arrested by police on suspicion of aggravated trespass."

It is not known why the man was on the roof but a poster entitled 'justice' talking about 'modern day slavery' and alleging someone had 'taken 21 years of his life' was near his tent.
