What is on at Macclesfield’s Treacle Market this weekend?
Treacletown has come once again!
It is the Treacle Market this Sunday, same time, same place, but this one will be extra paws-itive, as the great Treacle Tradition of the Dog Show returns.
The Treacle Market always welcomes dogs with well-behaved owners. The autumnal celebration of our furry friends will raise funds for Macclesfield charity Erin Hounds Sight Hound Rescue.
Famous previous judges for the Dog Show include the late Bill Turnbull of BBC Breakfast fame and Macclesfield FC legend Danny Whitaker.
This Sunday's Dog Show features eight categories, which means eight prizes to be won.
Local businesses which have donated prizes include Forest Gin and Macclesfield dog biscuit baker Beerscuits.
There's also prizes from national dog food business Burns, and Chestergate dog shop B&V Trading.
Turn up at St. Michael's churchyard for 10:30 to register your furball.
The show starts at 12:30 on Market Place. Spectators welcome, arrive early as it will get busy!
The Dog Show raises funds for Prestbury Road good cause Erin Hounds Sighthound Rescue.
And it is not just the pooches that will bring the party mood.
Becky Thompson, Co-Organiser of the Treacle Market, and a sight hound owner herself, explained what there is to look forward to.
"We've got Halloween frivolities with the Macclesfield Town Council pumpkin trail, and we've encouraged our stalls to get in with the theme as well," said Becky.
"Please feel free to come dressed up. We've got the Moss Rose Brass Band and the The VB Sixes in the way of music.
"We've got Tom Higgins as our mobile bar with Brewbox bar.
"Thank you to the people of Macclesfield, and beyond for their continued support."
Plenty of stalls will have seasonal themes this weekend, predominantly autumnal and Halloween vibes, with twinges of Christmas.
Unofficial events also going on in town at the same time as the Treacle Market include community singing in the King Edward Street Chapel, and a spooky drawing workshop you can leave the kids at if you want to go, shop and enjoy the market on your own for an hour.
If you can't make this Sunday, the next Treacle Market of the year will be the penultimate one on Sunday November 26.
