A Yorkshire man has completed a charity run in memory of a Macclesfield woman.

Jack Talbot has completed Great North Run, a 13.1 mile course which raises money for charity.

He raised money for Cardiac Risk in the Young, in memory of the late Macclesfield 19-year-old Mia Jennings. Mia passed away from cardiac arrest in January. The kind and caring teen taught hundreds of kids in Macclesfield to swim.

Mia was a friend of Jack's girlfriend, Maighan Maclean. And despite only having briefly met Mia, Jack felt compelled to do a fundraiser for the charity Mia's family and friends are raising money for.

"I saw the effect Mia's passing had on Maighan and her friends", said Jack.

"I only got to speak to Mia a few times, but in that same sort of breath I could see the impact she had on Maighan, and how easily she was to get on with.

"She was one of the only friends who came to visit Maighan at university in York. She really did brighten the room when she walked in."

Jack raised £635 for the Surrey-based charity, which could pay for heart screenings to identify conditions in young people.

"I ran the Great North Run in 2:12:42 - which is just over ten minute miles," revealed Jack.

"The atmosphere was sensational. It was a mega community of people, all there for the same reason, raising funds for a lot of great causes.

"There was a feeling of pride from the start line.

"I'm definitely gonna do it next year, I think I'm gonna do it every year now."

47 people in total ran for Cardiac Risk in the Young, including Jack who as well as being a student, works in a bar.

The 47 runners raised £10,400 for Cardiac Risk in the Young. And you can still donate to Jack's fundraiser by clicking HERE.

The AJ Bell Great North Run is back on Sunday 8 September 2024.
