The Mayor of Macclesfield is to brave a zip line this month, in order to raise money for his mayoral charities.

Macclesfield Central town councillor Sandy Livingstone, has been Mayor of Macclesfield since May 2024.

He will ride a lengthy zip line on Saturday September 21, at 9:30am, across a former slate quarry in North Wales.

"I am doing it to raise money for the charities Macc Artspace and Space4Autism, and to promote awareness for the two of them," said Sandy.

"I will be doing it with my youngest son, Douglas, who is 14. He was the only one brave enough to do this with me.

"The other reason is, genuinely I am terrified of heights. Over a number of years, I have developed vertigo. So I am pushing myself by doing this.

"It is also something very different for a Mayor to do, like this and Battle of the Bands, it is not something other Mayor's have done."

Incredibly, Sandy has smashed his original fundraising target of £500, five times over, before he has even got his safety gear on.

So far, he has fundraised £2575 from this zip line challenge, and you too can donate on this link.

"I am delighted and the people of Macclesfield are a very generous bunch," added Sandy.

"Thank you."

The zip line is not the only event Sandy is doing for his two chosen charities during his term as Mayor.

Before he heads to Wales, a Battle of the Bands will be held at Cinemac on September 14.

Additionally, Sandy will be taking part in a fun run for Space4Autism this Sunday.

Further fundraisers will be a bingo night in the Pack Horse Bowling Club on Friday October 25, 2024. And a Burns Night event in the Macclesfield Town Hall on January 25, 2025.

Sandy's term of Mayor will end in May 2025.

"I have been enjoying my time as Mayor," said Sandy.

"It allows you to meet a lot of people who are doing good around Macclesfield, and basically thank them for what they do."

Sandy has covered the cost of taking part in the zip line himself.
