A new t-shirt celebrating Macclesfield's Joy Division legacy has launched, ahead of this Saturday's inaugural 'Joy Division Day'.

Two new shirts, costing £22, reference the post-punk band's legendary debut album Unknown Pleasures.

The black shirt features a unique angle of the late frontman Ian Curtis.

The white tee is based off a photograph of the full band rehearsing at a former mill in Blackburn.

The reverse of the garments reference tomorrow's date, and the Joy Division tribute band that will perform at Cinemac tomorrow.

The two new t-shirts will be exclusively sold at Proper Sound, and just 110 are available.

Proper Sound Owner Lucie Wright, t-shirt printer Joe Hanrahan, and Cinemac director Jordan Wilson spoke with Macclesfield Nub News.

"It is great to collaborate with local businesses with something like this," said Lucie.

"It all goes back into the local economy.

"£2 from each sale goes to multiple local mental health charities. [To be decided]."

Local designer and Joy Division superfan Cyan Cat AKA DJ Cow Brown designed the t-shirt.

The original Joy Division featured two band members from Macclesfield, being lead Ian Curtis and drummer Stephen Morris.

Macclesfield resident Jordan Wilson's venue, Cinemac, is hosting the Joy Division band Transmission tomorrow evening. (Tickets available HERE).

"Working with people who are a fan of the band, and appreciate what the band stand for, it is always great to do," said Jordan.

"They will be for sale only at Proper Sound at the day. So it is going to be first come first serve, get them while they are hot.

The new tees feature lyrics from the song Transmission, being 'No language, just sound, that's all we need now'. Just 110 will be available to purchase. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"You can pick up your concert ticket [souvenir wristband] while you are here as well, and have a nice beer."

Proper Sound is open from 12pm on Saturday.

You can follow the business - which currently faces an uncertain future - on Facebook.

Separate to this collaboration, n new 77 Barton Street shirt, the site of Ian Curtis' final Macclesfield home, where he lived when he penned tracks like Love Will Tear Us Apart will also be sold at Proper Sound. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)
