A main road has been shut following a 'serious' crash.

The A34 Melrose Way is currently closed in both directions.

Emergency services are in attendance, with motorists urged to avoid the area.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "The A34 Melrose Way (Alderley Edge bypass) is currently closed in both directions due to a serious collision.

"The closure is in place between Bollington Lane and Whitehall Bridge Roundabout.

"Local diversions are in place, but motorists are urged to avoid the area."

Emergency services have been contacted for further information.
