A rural Macclesfield road could see its speed limit reduced.

Local concern about speeding and road safety on Hollin Lane, in Sutton, was a top priority when Macclesfield MP, David Rutley met with Mr Steve Nichols, Chief Executive of the Rossendale Trust and Ms Andrea Wright, Registered Manager and Head of Supported Living.

The well-respected charity - which is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year - is asking for the speed limit to be reduced to 30mph outside Rossendale Hall.

The Rossendale Trust provides supported living care to adults with learning and some physical disabilities, giving them the opportunity to live in purpose-built apartments and houses across Macclesfield. One of which is Rossendale Hall, located on Hollin Lane.

At the meeting, Mr Nichols set out the charity's concerns about the number of cars driving at high speeds on this particular stretch of Hollin Lane. During his visit to the Trust, David saw first-hand the potential road safety risks outside Rossendale Hall. He has given his strong support to requests by Rossendale Trust and others for the speed limit to be reduced to 30mph.

Following the meeting, David has written to Dr Lorraine O'Donnell, outgoing Chief Executive of Cheshire East Council, to request that measures are put in place to improve road safety on Hollin Lane for both pedestrians and other road users.

Speaking after the meeting, David said "There are clear road safety concerns on Hollin Lane, outside Rossendale Hall, which is home to many vulnerable adults. It makes sense to reduce the speed limit here to 30mph – just as we look to reduce speed limits outside schools – to help ensure the safety of local residents. I strongly urge Cheshire East Council to take action on this, as a priority."
