A Macclesfield comic artist has launched a new drawing workshop to keep the kids busy during the Treacle Market.

Marc Jackson, who has had his own Treacle Market stall for nine years, is now moving his stall inside Room for Comics, a studio he has already occupied a year this month on Market Place.

His new Treacle Sunday workshop will teach kids how to draw characters comic book-style, and they will have a piece of artwork to take away with them.

Parents can come with their children, or leave their little ones here for a bit and explore Macclesfield's artisan market.

Macclesfield Dad-of-two Marc, who runs Room for Comics with his wife, had this to say about his new Treacle Sunday offering.

"The viewpoint for this is, you can drop your kids off and go and explore the market", he said.

"This will particularly benefit people from out of town who come for the market, and can't whizz quickly home.

"I've got kids, I know it isn't the most fun thing for children. And I'm sure there are some parents who don't come to Treacle Market because dragging the kids around isn't much fun.

The event costs £8.50 per child. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"Hopefully, this workshop will allow parents to plan an hour where they can properly explore the market. As a parent, I can say it is amazing what you can achieve in small windows of time."

The bookable event will be £8.50 per child.

It will take place from 11:30am to 12:30pm on Sunday September 25.

Marc is calling the new event Treacle Toons.

"We'll start off this September 25 with one, and then hopefully by the next market [October 23], we could've two sessions a day depending on how popular it is," added Marc.

"Our workshop will be open before the classes so people can see what it is all about and plan their day.

"They will learn the basics of cartooning, get to create their own drawings, and characters, all within our wonderful hidden-gem of a studio space.

"It gives them a chance to be creative and encourage them to draw without any restrictions, and focus on their wellbeing as well. As there isn't much for kids at the Treacle Market, as much as I love it."

Booking is through Eventbrite only, and is the same cost per person for the kids parties that commonly take place at Room for Comics.

"We're a hidden gem tucked away on King Edward Street just round the corner from Plums Kitchen on Market Place", Marc also said.

"We're a comic art studio for all ages. Outside of the Treacle Market, we have a weekly adult comic art drawing class, who love to tap into their hidden talents and discover something new.

"Comic art and cartooning has brought me so much joy, and Room for Comics helps me share that with you.

"You can call us for any enquiries on 07557 670548. And our office is open six days a week for you to pop in to."
