New single for Macclesfield band inspired by Joy Division and The Police

Macclesfield rockers Red Sky Dawn have released a rousing new standalone single.

Sorry We Missed You features an atmospheric guitar line that any rock fan would appreciate, and haunting backing vocals as if someone was falling.

The track - which you can listen to on this link or by clicking play at the top of this article - is over four minutes long.

It is the first of a summer trilogy of singles. And follows on from the momentum of releasing their debut EP.

Self-recorded and produced, the three tracks will bridge the gap between a band of young hopefuls and a genuinely inventive force emerging into indie rock.

The new song finds them at their angriest and most political - railing at the gap between rich and poor.

The track has a very 'Manchester sound', in both the vibe of the music and indeed the literal sounds in the track.

Real urban sound effects captured in central Manchester are blended with barbed wire Telecaster riffs from lead guitarist Charlie Candlish, jabbing bass-work from his sister Josie and thunderous drumming from Alex Walton.

All combine to create a chilling, dystopian feel as lead singer Sam Timson delivers a powerfully irate vocal before giving way to stacked backing voices in the sneering style of a football chant.

The track is a departure from the laid-back mood of their recent EP 'The Man Who Stole The Sun' - but the band makes no apologies for veering between themes and musical styles.

Sorry We Missed You borrows its title from the troubling 2019 Ken Loach film depicting a delivery driver and his wife's descent into working poverty. The track's lyrics reflects the film's heart-wrenching storyline.

Follow-up singles - Another and Longboard Lena - are scheduled to be released in May and June.
