East Cheshire NHS Trust has been named the kindest in the North West.

The results of the NHS Staff Survey, the largest engagement survey in the world, were published earlier this month.

They show that the local acute hospital trust, which manages Macclesfield District General Hospital and Congleton War Memorial Hospital, is considered the 'kindest' place to work in the region.

Chief executive Ged Murphy said: "We're absolutely delighted that 75 per cent of our colleagues feel that their colleagues are kind and understanding to one another, making us the kindest acute hospital trust in which to work in the whole of the North West.

"Our colleagues remain committed to providing a kind, caring and inclusive culture, for both patients and colleagues.

"And we're proud that our highest scoring promise is 'we are compassionate and inclusive'."

East Cheshire NHS Trust is the main provider of acute and community health services for people across East Cheshire.

Based at Macclesfield District General Hospital, the trust also manages Congleton War Memorial Hospital and Knutsford and District Community Hospital.

The NHS Staff Survey is conducted every year at the same time to understand the experiences of colleagues in the NHS and support improvements across the organisation.

The survey is aligned to the NHS People Promise, launched in 2020, designed to improve the working experience of colleagues across the NHS.

This year's results also show that 88 per cent of staff at East Cheshire NHS Trust 'feel their role makes a difference'.

A similar figure say they 'enjoy working with their colleagues' (83%) and 'feel trusted to do their job' (91%).

Mr Murphy said: "The results show a steady year on year increase in the overall morale and engagement score, which is also reflected in the fact that the Trust has seen improvements in almost all our People Promises, demonstrating a positive shift in the culture of the whole organisation.

"We're also very proud that at 60% we have the highest response rate to the survey of any Acute Hospital Trust in the whole of the North West, with a 20% increase on last year in the numbers of our colleagues completing the survey.

"And with so many responding, we've gained a powerful insight into how our colleagues feel about working here, allowing us to benchmark ourselves against past performance and similar NHS Trusts.

"We'll be sharing the results across our organisation, so all our colleagues can celebrate their successes, and keep working to make ECT an even better place to work and receive care."
