A new Aldi is to open in Macclesfield tomorrow.

It is one of six new national chain shops opening at the new Barracks Mill Retail Park in the coming months.

This is despite the discount supermarket already having a site across town, on Queen Victoria Street near Macclesfield Bus Station.

Macclesfield Nub News reached out to Aldi for comment ahead of the new store's opening, as to whether the old one will remain open in the foreseeable future.

A spokesman for Aldi said: "We are delighted to confirm the Queen Victoria Street store will remain open alongside the new store on Silk Road."

Macclesfield Barracks Mill Aldi will open at 8am on Thursday, by Olympian Sarah Jones.

The new store, which will create close to 50 jobs, are still hiring on their website

Their other store is also hiring, which indicates that the Queen Victoria Street store does indeed have a future, at least in the short term.

However Aldi shoppers should take note that last year in Congleton - a local town half the size of Macclesfield - had their Aldi shut down.

This was at the same time a new store in Biddulph had opened down the road, and because there already was another nearby Aldi in the Congleton suburb of West Heath. Said shut Congleton store was empty for ten months, and has since become a SCREWFIX.

Bargain homeware store B&M, who are also set to have two Macclesfield store's co-existing at once, did not respond to comment as to whether they will close their Exchange Square store with the advent of Barracks Mill.

B&M did not respond to comment.
