Pedestrian access opened to new Macclesfield Aldi store
Macclesfield's new Aldi store now has pedestrian access, thirteen days after opening.
The Macclesfield Silk Road store located at the Barracks Mill retail park could previously only be accessed by car.
However, walkers and wheelchair users can now rejoice in the news shared by a Macclesfield Town and Cheshire East Councillor.
Macclesfield Tytherington Councillor David Edwardes confirmed the news with the following statement.
"A number of you wonderful Residents were concerned that there was no pedestrian access to Barracks Mill Shopping Park (when Aldi opened)," he said.
"I can confirm that the access is now open.
"It is accessed from Black Lane (by the Hibel Road Tesco petrol station/exit)."
The new Aldi has provided competition for Tesco and the Co-op, who were previously the only supermarkets within walking distance of Hurdsfield.
The new store opened at 8am on October 13 2022. It has created 33 jobs, and they are still hiring for seven more.
Aldi have been contacted for comment on the accessibility news.
The store is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm. Sundays 10am to 4pm.
