Permanent closure of Macclesfield pub confirmed
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 18th Apr 2026
A Macclesfield pub is set to shut for good.
The Rising Sun on Congleton Road has announced it will serve its final pint next Saturday, April 25.
It comes after Greene King, the national pub chain, confirmed it was considering closing both the Rising Sun and the Butley Ash, with the future of the Blacksmiths Arms also up in the air.
A Facebook post shared by the pub on Saturday, April 18, reads: "We're so sad to say that on Saturday 25th April at 8pm we will be shutting our doors forever.
"We would like to thank our customers for the continued support over the years."

Speaking earlier this month, a spokesperson for Greene King said: "In March we announced a new pub estate strategy to set us up to deliver sustainable and profitable growth for the future.
"As part of that, we identified approximately 300 pubs that would be better served under different models, with around half of those considered for a potential sale over the medium term.
"As a result of this process, we are now exploring all options available to us regarding the future of the Blacksmiths Arms."
The spokesperson added: "Separately, consultations are underway at the Butley Ash and the Rising Sun as potential closures are considered as part of our typical annual business activity.
"Making the decision to close pubs is never an easy one and multiple factors are always considered before a final outcome is agreed."
At the time of writing, there has not been any further update on the future of the Butley Ash or the Blacksmiths Arms.
