Plans to create new parking spaces at a Macclesfield cul-de-sac have been submitted to Cheshire East Council.

If approved, the scheme would see four temporary spaces at Wykeham Close repaired and turned into five spots, while a piece of lawn would be turned into a further five spaces.

The planning application has been submitted by Places for People which maintains sheltered housing in the area.

Plans say there are not enough parking spaces on the road for all the local residents.

"This along with the unauthorised use of the parking areas from drop-offs and pick-ups to the nearby primary school has resulted in a great deal of frustration for residents," the application said.

"Approximately four years ago a section of landscaping was excavated and gravelled to provide an additional four temporary parking spaces, however the quality of construction was not great, and the temporary parking area is now suffering from significant undulations and loss of gravel resulting in numerous complaints from our customers.

"It is proposed to amend the existing four temporary off-street spaces into five permanent off-street spaces.

"Also, to the grassed area of land opposite these spaces, it is proposed to form another five permanent off-street parking spaces."

Overall it would see the number of permanent spaces increase to 22.

"These additional parking spaces will benefit the residents and prevent frustrations which are currently being suffered without causing too much variation to the existing street scene and general aesthetic of the area," the application added.
