Police are investigating the 'unexplained' death of a woman in Macclesfield.

Officers were alerted of concerns for the welfare of a woman at an address on Pearson Street at around 6.48pm on Friday (July 18).

Joined by paramedics, a 72-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained while officers conduct enquiries in relation to the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector David Hutcheon said: "We are in the early stages of our investigation to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened and at the current time it appears this is an isolated incident.

"You may see a police presence in and around the Pearson Street area as part of this investigation.

"We would like to appeal to anyone who may have any information in relation to the incident to come forward, or anyone who saw anything suspicious or unusual in the area recently.
