Police have shared an update on a man injured in a van fire in Macclesfield.

A huge emergency service presence descended on Maydews Passage on Wednesday, May 27, after a van and a neighbouring block of flats caught fire.

The building had to be evacuated, with a 25-year-old man airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital.

On Friday, May 29, Cheshire Police confirmed that the man remains in hospital.

While his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, they do appear to be 'life-changing'.

The case has now been handed to the Health and Safety Executive, the national regulator for workplace health and safety.

A spokesperson for the HSE said they are aware of the incident and are awaiting further information to determine if an investigation will need to take place.
