Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has urged people not to use disposable BBQs in wooded areas.

Firefighters are expected to work throughout the weekend as they continue to battle the blaze at Macclesfield Forest.

The public are being asked to stay away from the area until the incident has been fully resolved.

With a disposable BBQ having seemingly started the fire, people are also being reminded not to use BBQs, camp fires or any other open flames in woodland areas, especially while the dry conditions continue across the county.

Steve McCormick, head of prevention and protection at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "With the warm weather and current dry conditions, the risk of wildfire is extremely high.

"We are urging people to leave disposable barbecues at home and pack a picnic instead.

"Dry grass and vegetation can ignite very easily, and fires can spread rapidly in these conditions.

"If you smoke, please ensure cigarettes and other smoking materials are fully extinguished.

"Also take glass bottles and rubbish home with you.

"By taking these simple precautions, everyone can help protect our countryside from preventable fires."
