It has been almost twelve hours since Tim Roca was declared as Macclesfield's new MP.

It is the first time Macclesfield has elected a Labour MP.

The other candidates have reacted to the news.

David Rutley, who had won the previous four elections, finished in second over 9000 votes behind Mr Roca.

The Conservative said: "Congratulations to Tim Roca on becoming the MP for Macclesfield. I wish him every success in what is undoubtedly the best job in Parliament."

"It was a great honour to serve our local communities since 2010 and I would like to thank all those who supported me in that work."

Amanda Iremonger, the fourth-placed Green Party candidate said: "Congratulations to Tim Roca on a historic victory, and a fine campaign.

"Thank you to those who voted Green."

Poynton High School, which Mr Roca attended until 2005, tweeted "Many congratulations to Tim Roca, former student @PoyntonHigh, and elected yesterday as the new Member of Parliament for Macclesfield. Best wishes from your old school!"

Tim Roca himself said "It's the privilege of my life to be elected as Member of Parliament for Macclesfield."

"I'm so grateful to everyone who put their trust in me. I promise to work my socks off for all our communities.

"Can't wait to get started!"

The Labour leader and Britain's next Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been contacted for comment.
