Rising costs and online shopping force charity shop to close for good

A high street charity shop has closed for good.
Children's charity Barnardo's has confirmed the closure of its store on Mill Street in Macclesfield.
The shop shut last Wednesday, February 12, amid rising costs and the continuing shift towards online shopping.
A spokesperson for the charity said: "In the last few years, there have been huge challenges for the UK high street.
"These include increased operating costs for shops and reduced consumer spending, related to the economy and the cost-of-living crisis.
"As well as this, the rise in online platforms selling pre-loved clothing has impacted on the income of charity shops."

The spokesperson added: "Our shops provide vital income for our work with children, young people, and families across the UK.
"We regularly review their performance and, where stores are not generating a positive contribution that we can invest in our work to change childhoods and change lives, then we must make the difficult decision to close them.
"We would like to thank our wonderful colleagues and volunteers for all their hard work, and the public for both their donations and custom."
Barnardo's has an online store selling gifts, furniture, clothing and more - https://shop.barnardos.org.uk.
