Search on for new postmaster as Macclesfield branch to close within days

A Macclesfield Post Office is closing.
The Post Office at Co-op on London Road will shut on Monday (May 12).
A search is now on to find a new operator for the area.
A Post Office spokesperson said: "The operator for London Road Post Office has resigned as Co-op has made the difficult decision to close the Post Office branch.
"It will close on Monday, May 12, at 1pm.
"We know how important a Post Office is to a community.
"The vacancy is advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk and we are keen to hear from local retailers about this business opportunity."
The website states that they are looking for a 'successful retailer' to incorporate a Post Office Local into their existing or proposed business.
Applications close on July 14, 2025.
Until such time that a new operator is found, customers are advised that the closest branch is in Sutton, 1.2 miles away.
A spokesperson for the Sutton branch said: "We are saddened to hear that London Road Post Office branch is closing.
"This location has served our community for years, and its closure will surely be felt by many.
"While this is a sad change, please know that we're here for you.
"Our team at Sutton Post Office is ready to support all your mailing and banking needs—right here in the heart of the community.
"If you have questions or need help with services, don't hesitate to reach out or stop by. We're honoured to serve you."
