Cheshire East has renewed the licence for a Crewe sex shop despite objections from a Macclesfield councillor.
Kim Evans, the council's licensing team leader, told a recent meeting of the licensing sub-committee that the licence for Temptations Adult Shop on Nantwich Road was renewed annually and there had never been an objection from anyone previously.
The hearing had been called at the end of last month because councillor Sarah Bennett-Wake (Macclesfield, Lab) had objected to the renewal of the licence saying she didn't think it was appropriate to the character of the area as the shop was on a high street and a walking route to school.
She had also argued pornography contributed to violence against women.
Shop owner Alan Brook told the committee: "I've operated responsibly as the licence holder for the last 21 years in the community at the same address.
"Everything's been great, no trouble whatsoever."
Mr Brook said no violent DVDs were sold in the shop and all DVDs sold had the proper certificate from the British Board of Film Classification.
He added about 30 per cent of his customers were women.
The committee was told Cheshire Police had no objection to the licence being renewed.
The licence renewal was approved and the shop is permitted to open from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
