'Showstopper' play equipment to be installed at Macclesfield park this summer
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 25th Jun 2026
A 'showstopper' piece of play equipment is set to be installed at West Park in Macclesfield this summer.
Cheshire East Council is delivering the project, with funding support from Macclesfield Town Council, to replace an ageing play structure that has reached the end of its lifespan.
The new 'Giant XL' is set to become a standout feature within West Park – creating a bold, eye-catching attraction and an exciting new space for children to play, explore and be active.
At its heart will be a large, multi-level play tower, packed with climbing walls, ladders, tunnels and an 'extreme' tube slide, giving children the chance to climb high, explore and play in different ways.
Councillor David Jefferay, Cheshire East Council's cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, said: "This is a fantastic improvement for West Park and a great example of how we're working with partners to enhance our parks for local families.
"The response from residents has been brilliant, and it's clear the 'Giant XL' is going to be a real centrepiece for West Park.
"We're pleased to be delivering this for the summer holidays, and I've no doubt the park will be packed with families once it's ready for use. I take my own kids there quite often and I know they'll absolutely love it!

Residents were invited to help choose the new equipment, with more than 1,500 people taking part in a public vote.
Option B – the 'Giant XL' – proved the clear favourite.
Councillor Emma Gilman, Cheshire East Council ward member for Tytherington and Macclesfield town councillor, said: "We're delighted to support this exciting improvement at West Park, which is such a valued space for the town.
"It's fantastic to see so many people, especially children, getting involved in the decision, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the new equipment become a focal point for play in the park."
Work is expected to begin next week, with installation scheduled to complete as the summer holidays begin.
During this period, some areas of the play park will be temporarily closed to ensure the work can be carried out safely.
