Silent protestors have called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Dozens of people gathered outside Macclesfield Town Hall on Friday evening (August 1) for a silent vigil.

Organised by the local branch of Global Justice Now, the demonstration aimed to raise awareness of the suffering taking place in the Palestinian territory.

A poster for the event stated: "We will remember the suffering people of Gaza, call for a ceasefire and an end to our government's complicity through continued arms sales.

"We welcome anyone who shares the aims and ethos of this vigil."

According to the British Red cross, more than 52,000 people in Gaza have died and at least 118,000 have been injured since October 2023.

Currently, around 470,000 people in the area face starvation – 22% of the population.

Those in attendance at Friday's vigil held signs calling for 'ceasefire now', with others saying 'stop starving Gaza'.
