The Silkmen Supporters' Trust (SST) is exploring the option of establishing a new club to replace Macclesfield Town FC following its winding-up order this morning.

The Trust said any new club would be separate from the current financial turmoil under Amar Alkadhi's ownership.

A winding-up order means that the court will appoint a receiver if it believes the club has any assets to service the debt.

The SST said in a statement: "There is no easy way back from this. The only way would be to pay out all the money owed, an option the SST is currently exploring.

"The court ruling is in effect the end of the club in its present format."

The Trust continued: "The only way forward now, and it may be a positive, would be to form a new club, just like Bury has done, debt free and without Mr Alkadhi. To that end, the SST will be contacting local councillors to preserve and protect the integrity of the Moss Rose stadium."

Cheshire East Council bought the leasehold for the land in 2013 for £285,000 to help save the club from financial difficulty at the time.

Macclesfield Nub News asked the council what their plans were for the grounds following today's ruling, but before the recent statement by the SST.

A council spokesperson said: "Cheshire East Council has been following this matter closely for some time. It is always very disappointing for any business to fail – and very concerning for the members of staff and the supporters of the club.

"The council continues to follow the matter very closely as the statutory process, following this news, is progressed via the courts. The council will work with all parties involved."

The SST has said that whatever happens they "will not countenance Mr Alkadhi being involved in any shape or form."

"The SST furthermore hope that the fanbase will unify behind whatever club we have in the future," the statement concluded.
