Cosmetics expert shares her top tips for adopting a new self-care routine in 2025
Looking for a new skincare routine for 2025?
All natural and eco-friendly bath and body brand Posh Brats could just be the answer.
Every product is made in a 17th century barn-turned-cosmetics lab in Nether Alderley.
It is the brainchild of award-winning cosmetic chemist, Brittany De Staedtler.
Brittany has shared some helpful advice for those looking start the new year off positively, focusing on their self-care and mental wellbeing.
She said: "When it comes to the new year and making changes many times people are tempted to jump in and embrace an entire new routine. This can be overwhelming and often it will quickly fall to the wayside if it's too much at once.
"The same goes for skincare and self-care. It's different if you're dealing with something like spots, an achy back, or sensitive dry skin because you are looking for an immediate solution. These changes are easy to implement because you're committed to that effort."
Brittany added: "When you're looking for something that takes time and continual use to reach a goal like making a conscious effort switch to natural skincare, or start a routine for the first time ever, my advice is to start slow.
"Start with a daily cream or even a cleanser and get used to the self-care ritual that you are doing just for you.
"Move on from there and implement other items that will be enjoyed and will complement your routine."
Brittany, originally from Biloxi in Mississippi, started in the beauty industry in 1987, spending time working in hair and beauty before turning her focus to chemistry.
She said: "Career-wise I was always destined to be deeper into my chosen craft, my late father was a chemist and I came from a long line of witchy pioneer women who knew how to heal with natural botanicals.
"I took that more esoteric side and combined it with science when I went on to get my MSc in chemistry.
"The degree gave me the science, but it was my deep dive into herbalism and aromatherapy that really started me on the path to specializing in cosmetic chemistry."
In 2008, a year after moving to the UK, Brittany launched Posh Brats.
She spends up to 19 hours every day working in the lab in Nether Alderley perfecting her products.
All materials, packaging and equipment are supplied by British companies.
She said: "Posh Brats was born of my passion for natural solutions to things that we typically throw synthetic chemicals at combined with a deep love of truly luxurious self-care.
"It has evolved over the years and as we've expanded our reach and our connections to the British countryside, the line has become more and more of a celebration of the wealth of the British countryside.
"We aren't just some company started by a hobbyist in their spare room. The pure skill, research, science, education, investment, commitment, and passion behind Posh Brats is considerable. You don't just magically make it 17 years as a company if you're merely dabbling at your craft."
In 2024 Posh Brats opened a store in Macclesfield, located in the Grosvenor Centre.
There you can find everything from bath bombs for the kids to serious skincare and handmade home fragrances.
They also offer personal consultations, ensuring customers get the product they need.
Brittany said: "We are always happy to advise but it's never about just making a sale. We are here to help each individual find what is right for them.
"You are always speaking to one of the owners or creators when you visit us.
"We strive to provide a safe, relaxing, no-pressure environment for everyone.
"Our Macclesfield retail shop will also be constantly evolving and we are bringing in a selection of carefully chosen spiritual and gift items that will complement our product line."
