Every person who walks through doors at Gravity Pilates starts their journey for a different reason.

For some, it's recovery from injury. For others, it's building strength, improving flexibility, boosting confidence, or simply finding a form of movement they genuinely enjoy.

Whatever the goal, one thing remains the same — everyone progresses at their own pace in a welcoming, supportive environment.

The studio at Bridge Street Mills has members aged 16 to 70+, and thanks to the versatility of their Total Gym New Age Reformers, sessions can be tailored to complete beginners, those returning to fitness, rehabilitation clients, and experienced movers alike.

Below, Gravity Pilates share just a few of the success stories from local people who have transformed not just physically, but mentally too.

Isobel Leathley - From nervous beginnings to thriving with confidence

When Isobel Leathley first joined Gravity Pilates, she was understandably nervous.

Living with a back condition, she had been advised that Reformer Pilates would be one of the best ways to support her recovery and strengthen her body safely.

"I was so nervous to go and start something new," Isobel explained. "But Andy made me feel so at ease. He was constantly checking if my back was okay and made the sessions informative and fun too."

What started as cautious first steps soon became a regular part of her weekly routine.

Now attending classes three times a week, Isobel says the difference in both her physical and mental wellbeing has been huge.

"The trainers are so welcoming and everyone works at different levels, which makes it feel really comfortable. We always have a chat before class starts and the reformers are easy to use and so versatile."

"I can really see my progressions. My abs and back are getting stronger and I feel better in both my mind and body. I would definitely recommend Gravity — it's such a welcoming, comforting but inspiring place to be."

Perhaps most inspiring of all, Isobel is now completing exercises she once never thought possible after her back injury — something that continues to motivate both staff and fellow members.

William Hadfield - Building strength and rediscovering fitness

William Hadfield first joined Gravity Pilates after searching for early morning Reformer Pilates classes and admits he almost didn't want to tell people about it.

"I'm slightly reluctant to leave this review," he joked, "because this place is so good! It feels like a hidden treasure."

Returning to Reformer Pilates after a couple of years away — and navigating recent back issues — William was initially unsure how he would get on.

But after just one taster session, he immediately signed up for more.

"The classes are fun, have a great soundtrack and can be tailored to all levels. I was worried about getting back into Reformer after some time away and recent back issues, but I shouldn't have been - it's been amazing."

Since first joining, William has continued to make fantastic progress and has significantly increased his strength - one of the key reasons he originally came to Gravity Pilates.

His journey is a reminder that progress looks different for everyone, and often starts with simply giving something new a try.

"I'm fitter and more confident than I've ever been — and I'm in my late 50s!" Julie says.

"The studio is amazing and so welcoming whether it's your first time or you've been going for a while. Everyone is so friendly and we really are a little community."

Julie credits not only the classes, but the encouragement and support from instructors as a huge part of her progress.

"Lily is an amazing teacher and so encouraging. It's my new favourite form of exercise - a five-star experience and I highly recommend it."

Since joining, Julie has made incredible progress in her strength, flexibility and confidence, showing that it's never too late to start prioritising your health and wellbeing.
