What's on in Macclesfield this weekend including beer festival and exotic animal show

Just like that, another weekend is upon us!

With it being the last weekend of the month., Treacle Market is back but that's not all there is to look forward to.

We've rounded up some of the other events and activities taking place in and around Macclesfield.

Thursday (08/05)

Music@Mike's

The next lunchtime concert at St Michael's Church in the Market Place is on Thursday at 1.15pm.

It will be a recital by the talented pianist and regular visitor to St Michael's, Adam Parrish.

He will be playing his usual eclectic mix of pieces, from Beethoven to the Beatles - something for everyone!

Art lecture

The May lecture of Macclesfield Arts Society is being held on Thursday at 2pm.

The lecture is titled "Carnations, Tulips and Hyacinths: The Story of Turkey's Iznik ceramics" and focuses on the world of carnations, tulips and hyacinths as part of the history of the famous Turkish Iznik ceramics.

The speaker is Dr Antonia Gatward Cevizli, who is an independent art historian specialising in both Italian Renaissance and Ottoman art.

Evening walks

East Cheshire Ramblers' evening walks start on Thursday, 7pm from Sutton Reservoir.

It is an easy five-mile walk with approximately 200 feet of ascent.

Friday (09/05)

Sixties tribute show

David John Dee is hosting a sixties tribute show at Belong Macclesfield.

'From Me To You' features timeless hits from The Beatles and is free to attend.

It takes place on Friday from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Beer festival

Macclesfield Charity Beer Festival returns to Macclesfield Rugby Club this weekend.

Taking place over three sessions across Friday and Saturday, expect over 120 beers, 60 ciders and perries, a variety of craft lager, wine prosecco, gin and non-alcoholic options.

Money raised will help the local branch of the MND Association provide home adaptation equipment and other essential items to help Cheshire residents impacted by MND.

Party Animals charity fundraiser

The Ivy Leaf pub is hosting a Party Animals charity event.

Head over from midday to 5pm and enjoy a bouncy castle, face painting, gift stalls, and more.

At 2pm there will be an exotic animals show.

Cheese & wine

Belong Macclesfield are hosting a cheese and wine event.

Come along to The Bistro from 5.30pm to 7pm to meet with the village's management team.

The event provides a chance to find out the latest news from the village, speak with our managers to answer any questions and discuss individualised care options, and for you to share any ideas or feedback.

Bollington SciBar

The speaker in May is Nathan Adams from Manchester University.

In this talk, Nathan will provide a tour through the early Universe as we now see it with James Webb Space Telescope, as well as what went well and what didn't go so well with the first data that was obtained.

He will show images of some of the most distant objects humans have ever seen, describe how scientists figure out what they are made out of and explore some examples of galaxies that have astronomers scratching their heads to explain.
