Older people in Macclesfield found themselves jetting off to Hawaii for a traditional luau held at their home, Belong care village.

The Kennedy Avenue 'Ohana' donned lei garlands, floral prints, and colourful headwear for the party in their public bistro, with friends, family and neighbours also invited to the afternoon shindig.

Guests were treated to a piece of paradise as support workers and volunteers put together a lineup featuring a beach bar, music, dancing, and themed games. Later, everyone tucked into to a 'mea'ai pā'ina' spread devised by the bistro and catering team.

Phyllis Basford, apartment tenant at Belong Macclesfield, said: "Everyone truly entered into the spirit of the event!

"We all dressed in accordance with Hawaiian custom, including floral lei garlands. It was wonderful."

Alexis Marsden, experience coordinator at Belong Macclesfield, added: "We're big fans of themed events here – our customers love putting forward their ideas for evening dos and afternoon get togethers, and they equally enjoy being involved in their preparation. The 'Spirit of Aloha' is truly alive in our community!

"We had a wonderful time bringing a little taste of Hawaii to our world. Our customers really got into the swing of things, many going all out to dress up for the occasion, and it's been the talk of the village ever since. We can't wait for our next one."

Upcoming events open to the community in the Belong Macclesfield 'What's On' experiences calendar include its big bingo night, Halloween spooktacular social, and football fun sessions with Macclesfield Football Club.
