Staff at two Macclesfield supermarkets to get 'bigger than expected' pay rise

Staff at two supermarkets in Macclesfield are set for a 'bigger than expected' pay rise.
In July, Aldi announced it would be increasing pay for store assistants from £12.75 to £13 per hour from Monday, September 1.
However, they have now further boosted this to £13.02 per hour, rising to £13.95 with length of service.
This marks the second pay rise for Aldi colleagues this year, cementing the discount retailer's position as the highest-paying supermarket in the UK as well as the only retailer to offer staff paid breaks, worth around £1,425 a year.
Giles Hurley, chief executive officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: "Our colleagues are at the heart of our success, and we're committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do.
"Today's higher than planned pay rise is part of our promise to never be beaten on pay."
There are two Aldi supermarkets in Macclesfield - one in the town centre on Queen Victoria Street and the other at Barracks Mill.
