There is still no completion date in sight for the works taking place at Macclesfield railway station.

Avanti West Coast has shared a further update on the station's £2 million redevelopment.

The final phase of the project began last year, with a view to being completed in 'spring 2026'.

However, with that deadline having now passed, the train operator has provided an update on the situation.

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: "We're continuing to work closely with our contractors to deliver the redevelopment works at Macclesfield station and would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding.

"Parts of the project are nearing completion and we're looking forward to welcoming customers and the community into the new station environment soon, which will provide an improved gateway to the town.

"We know many people are keen to understand when the work will be finished.

"While we don't have a confirmed completion date, work is progressing and we'll share an update as soon as we can.

The final phase of the station development is focused on the main station building.

Work has been taking place to upgrade the ticket office and create a new waiting room, toilets and a retail unit.

All of these facilities will be located within the same footprint as the existing station building on platform one.

This phase of the project began in November and followed the installation of the new bike storage on platform one.

The redevelopment has also seen Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology introduced at the station car park.

Avanti claim this will save motorists time when entering and exiting and remove the hassle of having to pay for parking after travelling by train.
