Students left marooned as Macclesfield College scraps music course
Macclesfield College has decided to scrap their music department with immediate effect.
According to one first-year student, they found out about the termination of their studies via phone.
The decision comes two years to the day that a performing arts course was culled.
Students now have to find a new course to continue their studies, even if they are halfway through. This could mean quitting music, or heading to another institution.
Macclesfield College responded to this Macclesfield Nub News request for comment"
"We review our provision throughout the year, closely monitoring applications and interest, but it is at this time of year where we are in a position to finalise our courses and their viability," a spokesperson said.
"The closure of the music offer is due to very low student numbers.
"Our priority now is to work with the small number of students to support them and minimise any disruption.
"Students who are finishing their courses at the end of this year will complete their studies and alternative places will be found."
The two current music tutors have also been contacted for comment.
The nearest college which offers a similar course is South Cheshire College (21 miles away).
