Suspected arson attack leaves family feeling unsafe in their own home
A suspected arson attack has left a family feeling unsafe in their own home.
Emergency services were called to Briarwood Avenue in the early hours of New Year's Day after a Nissan Navara was found ablaze.
The vehicle's owner, Jodie Cooke, believes this was done 'deliberately'.
She said: "Someone went out of their way to come out 1am smash our window and put a petrol bomb in my car!
"I'm lost for words as to why an individual would go to these lengths to try and ruin a family's life!
"It's just a car but me and the kids are traumatised.
"I don't feel safe in my own house."
Jodie added: "We have never done anything to anyone that would warrant this.
"The devastation this could have led to is incomprehensible.
"If the fire had spread the whole of the street could have lost their homes and cars.
"Some friends are putting together a GoFundMe as insurance payouts are usually a lot less than what we paid for the vehicle and what it was worth."
Jodie's husband, Grant Cooke, explained that the car's front driver side window was smashed and a fire started in the cab.
He says the vehicle set ablaze 'very quicky' and 'exploded' several times over the next hour.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene shortly after 1am on Wednesday, January 1.
One engine from the Macclesfield fire station attended.
"Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put out a car fire on Briarwood Avenue, Macclesfield," said a CFRS spokesperson.
Police were also called to the scene and officers are now investigating what happened.
A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 1.10am on Wednesday, police were called to reports of a car fire outside an address in Briarwood Avenue, Macclesfield.
"Colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire.
"Enquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances and cause."
