Two wards in Macclesfield are in the top ten per cent of average download speeds in the UK.

Macclesfield Bollinbrook and Macclesfield Weston have the best in our town with 104.8 and 105 megabytes per second respectively.

This is in the Top 10 of all areas in our country. This is according to GOV.UK data released last month.

But it is good news for all broadband users in Macclesfield. The average download speed in Macclesfield is 88 megabytes per second. This beats the UK average of 86.5 megabytes per second.

A connected town: The Macclesfield parliamentary constituency has been divided up by wards, to collate an average internet download speed for our area.

It slightly lags behind the North West average of 89.3 megabytes per second, however, this is due to the rural nature of our area.

The methodology of these new internet speed figures includes all connections within the Macclesfield parliamentary constituency.

So while as a publication, Macclesfield Nub News doesn't really cover Disley & Lyme Park, for example, it includes the slower internet speeds from there in the Macclesfield constituency average.

Central Macclesfield, the urban centre of Macclesfield, was beaten by sleepy Bollington, as well as neighbouring Tytherington, and Macclesfield & East and Hursfield.

Prestbury being a home for the super-rich has perhaps led it to have above-average internet speeds as well, boasting 90.8 megabytes downloaded per second.

Gawsworth & Macclesfield Forest has the worst download speed in the UK, making it harder to stream television or for businesses to operate.

It is there where they boast just 59.8 megabytes per second.

Megabytes per second is the most commonly known way to check of fast somebody can get online.

The data released by the government also shows other ways to check how good an internet connection is in Macclesfield, and can be viewed here.
