A man who stole from a church has appeared in court.

Macclesfield resident Christopher Carter has been sentenced after admitting to one charge of burglary.

The 51-year-old trespassed into Macclesfield Methodist Church on December 20, 2024, and stole £65 in cash.

Carter, of Great Kings Street, appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on Saturday, January 25, where he indicated a guilty plea.

He was ordered to pay £65 in compensation, along with a £50 fine and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The magistrates also issued a 12-month community order, as part of which Carter must complete up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity.

Macclesfield Methodist Church was approached for comment.
