Pair of Jubilee events for Her Majesty at Macclesfield Museums

A World War II tour of Macclesfield is among the big events to look forward to during the Queen's Jubilee at Macclesfield Museums.

In honour of the June 2 Bank Holiday and Platinum Jubilee on June 3, Macclesfield Museums have a slew of historic events for all the family to go on.

Multiple special events will be enjoyed by all generations will take place on Thursday June 2, Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4. 

It will begin with Tour of Paradise Mill with a special session on collections connected to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Enjoy a guided tour of Paradise Mill with Europe's largest collection of Silk Jacquard Handlooms in their original setting. Paradise Mill produced luxury silk for manufacturers. The Queen visited Macclesfield in 1949 as Princess Elizabeth.

There are three slots for this, on Thursday June 2, Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4 at various times.

The tour will take place 73 years after the Queen's Royal Visit to Macclesfield. Aged 23, she arrived by train with Prince Philip and the Royal couple were taken on a tour of Macclesfield's silk manufacturers.

Following the upcoming guided tour a special handling session of our collections will be arranged for visitors. Items include photographs, newspaper supplements and silk handkerchiefs from the time of Her Majesty's coronation.

Finally, is the World War II Walking Tour, on the day of the Jubilee.

This one is a perfect multi-generational event, which will take you round the town in all the Jubilee's glory, combined with peals of forgotten local history.

Macclesfield Museums tour guide Daisy will be leading a walking tour around Macclesfield, looking specifically at our town during the Second World War.

Daisy reveals how burnt cork and beetroot featured in women's make up at the time; explains what the Monkey Run was and where the closest doodlebug fell. Learn the history of the streets we walk on, and enjoy the great outdoors.

The walking tour will be a one-time event, taking place on Friday June 3 11am – 12noon. Tickets cost £12 per person.
